Want WiFi? Time Warner Cable's WiFi Network Grows to 12,000 Hotspots in Southern California

Network expands by more than 10,000 hotspots in less than two years, with significant growth in Santa Monica

How often do you use your smart phone, computer or tablet to get on the Internet when you are away from your home? Time Warner Cable is rapidly building their WiFi network to deliver more connectivity for their customers.  They recently announced a milestone, as their Los Angeles-area WiFi network has grown to more than 12,000 hotspots across Southern California. Santa Monica is among the areas of significant expansion.

Providing WiFi Internet access for free to Time Warner Cable customers and on a pay-as-you-go-basis to non-subscribers, the network spans more than 300 miles of Southern California, stretching as far south as Temecula, east to San Bernardino, north to Santa Clarita and reaching up the coast to Ventura. The 12,000 hotspots concentrate around Los Angeles, densely covering the city and surrounding areas.

“WiFi deployment continues to be a top initiative for Time Warner Cable,” said Mike Roudi, SVP of Corporate Development for Time Warner Cable.  “We know that being connected to the Internet wherever you are is a hugely important feature, so we’ll continue to invest to bring WiFi to areas where our customers live, work and play. It’s like taking your home Internet service with you.”

The network has expanded at an astounding rate, having grown from hundreds of hotspots at the end of 2011. Among the recently deployed areas are the Nixon Library, Hollywood Casting & Film, Brea, Santa Monica, San Fernando Valley, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, Corona, Santa Clarita, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, San Gabriel Valley, Costa Mesa, Tustin, Orange, Riverside and Ventura.

Finding and connecting to a TWC WiFi hotspot couldn’t be easier, thanks to the free TWC WiFi Finder app that is available for Apple and Android devices. The recently upgraded app provides an easy sign-in process, allowing customers to use the same information they use to manage their online Time Warner Cable account.

And that’s just the beginning. As the network continues to grow in Southern California, Time Warner Cable is also deploying WiFi in Austin, Kansas City, Hawaii, Charlotte and New York City. Additionally, Time Warner Cable Internet customers have access to the nation’s largest free WiFi Hotspot network, with more than 150,000 available through the Cable WiFi network, enabling access to hotspots operated by TWC and other Internet service providers in major cities across the country.
