is cooking up quite the charity effort for this year's Los Angeles Marathon. Chef Gordon Ramsay, of the reality-TV shows Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, has agreed to spice up the organization's charity crew.
All funds raised by Team Meals will go to feeding home-bound seniors in the West Los Angeles area. The Santa Monica-based MoWW provided more than 29,000 meals to seniors in 2010 alone. According to the organization, one person living at home can be fed twice a day year-round for $2,190.
MOWW president and CEO RoseMary Regalbuto, who plans to walk the marathon, has a fund-raising goal of exactly that amount.
"We are excited about this opportunity to raise money and to bring awareness to the serious issues that home-bound individuals face,” she said in a statement.
The marathon will take place Mar. 20 and, as it did last year, end in Santa Monica. Ramsay also ran the 2010 marathon, according to Active.com. His time is not listed.
Team Meals is still looking for additional participants. Perks include free registration and gear, invitations to free Team Meals events and the opportunity to participate in a professional training program.
