Santa Monica Adoptions Can Save These Lives

Consider adopting one of these three dogs: Dana, Frenchie or Cody.

By J. Flora Katz & Andrea Braver

Cody
Cody is one very handsome hound. Or lab mix, actually. Since one of our shelter volunteers gave him a bath, Cody's chocolate coat just gleams in the sunshine.  He prances proudly around the training yards, shaking off the inhibitions that he displayed when he first arrived at the shelter.

In those days he would keep pretty much to himself, maybe wandering up to the front of the kennel upon occasion to check things out. But, volunteers were drawn to Cody and started taking him out regularly. The result  --  a confident, sweet-natured 71-pound pal to all.

At beautiful 3 years of age, Cody is mature enough to know what he wants but young enough to do what he wants with the utmost enthusiasm. He's a great dog in need of a home before June arrives and his time is up.

Love Cody today with Adoption ID A1385331.

Dana & Frenchie
Didn't use a dating service. No blind dates, speed dating, or online dating website necessary. Not even an old fashioned match-maker. Rather, these two met at the park, quite by accident. You see, Dana is from East Valley. Frenchie from South L.A.  They were selected by two different people to attend our mobile pet adoption because they are two great dogs.

Totally different but, as they say, opposites attract. Dana is a gorgeous, long-legged, soft gray-brindle coated girl. A real stunner. Frenchie is a short, stout, dark brindle hunk of a fellow. A bit peculiar in appearance with those tall ears and round face.

Dana is outgoing, playful, loves toys and anyone she meets. Frenchie is painfully shy, would hide in his cubby for days (at first), slides along on his belly, but is gentle and hopeful. The introduction was purely unplanned but what a transformation occurred.

Dana literally reached out to Frenchie, took her paw and stroked his head. After spending about three hours laying on the grass, our boy stood up, his short legs visible for the first time all day. His tail started a waving motion. He was smitten.  This pair was made for each other  --  although I'm sure that either one would consider another companion, if given a chance. Both Dana and Frenchie are two years old and weigh about 55 pounds.

Dana's ID number was A1386932 and Frenchie's was A1383663. The two dogs are being transferred to the Best Friends facility in Mission Hills and will have new ID numbers there. And word has it that they will be kept together in one kennel  --  after being spayed and neutered, that is. Best Friends' phone number is (818)  643-3989.
