Sustainable Lifestyle Focus of Annual Santa Monica Festival

Live music, dance performances, eco-friendly art workshops and more will be featured during the 22nd annual Santa Monica Festival on Saturday, June 1.

The free festival runs all day, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., at Clover Park.

Among the highlights a Chef Challenge featuring Chef Josie Le Balch of Josie Restaurant and last year's champion Chef Nyesha Arrington of Wilshire Restaurant. The chefs will duel to create a tasty meal under $15 for a family of four.

Fitness classes ranging from square dancing and salsa, to Zumba and self-defense will lead a lineup of fun and active workshops throughout the day.

An Art Zone will feature mural painting, drawing workshops, games, storytelling, and face painting for kids.

Also, there will be a full day's line-up of music, beginning with a heart-pounding, bass-thumping Hip Hop dance routine led by Angela 2Robinson. Other performances include: songwriter, singer, and accordionist Jessica Fichot; The Lions, with a reggae-infused sound; and ContraTiempo, a non-profit, activist dance company.
