Casa Escobar was originally opened in 1965 by Carlos "Choppo" Escobar and remains in the family, currently operated by his son, Michael. Mexican food is served in an old-fashioned, family friendly environment. Just inside the door is the grotto-like bar and lounge, with a piano for live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Since the restaurant has no windows, the dining area is generally dark, which takes some adjustment if coming for lunch, but adds character with its red chili pepper string lights and one room with many pinatas hanging from the ceiling. The menu is comprised of traditional Mexican favorites, with combination dishes and a la carte items. Lunch features a carne asada special while more steaks are available for dinner.
