<p>Formerly the Maintenance & Solid Waste Division, the Santa Monica Public Works' Resource Recovery & Recycling Division is dedicated to achieving comprehensive, cost-effective solid waste management through environmentally sensitive means. The Division not only relies upon groundbreaking technology but educates the community of Santa Monica how residents can manage their resources more responsibly.</p>
<p>Collection services include bulky items, commercial, curbside, garbage, recycling, Rent-a-Bin, residential food and yard clippings.</p> <p>Food-scraps collection services include restaurant-food collection and restaurant-food waste.</p> <p>Additional services include drop-off, electronic waste and hazardous materials disposal, construction and demolition, home composting and street sweeping.</p> <p>The Resource Recovery & Recycling Division also holds Community Shred Events, where residents can shred sensitive documents for free. It also encourages residents to report recycling theft to 310-458-4932; pursuant to Santa Monica Municipal Code 5.08.320 (h), unauthorized individuals are not allowed to remove objects that are intended for recycling and deposited in City of Santa Monica recycling containers.</p>
