About time for a crackdown.

Just wait, we are not living in Netherlands! There will be a lot more accidents involving bicycles,Read More and not necessarily them hurting pedestrians, but also them getting hurt! You can sit in some dreamland at your desk all day and come up with these dreamy ideas. However, reality works differently! Traffic laws and signs are for EVERYBODY!

I just wonder why celebrity justice goes on and on in this case. Is it just putting off theRead More inevitable? Would anyone else receive this Cadillac treatment? There is a difference between real justice and celebrity coddling and coddling is what we have here!

I watched this video with tears streaming down my face. Thank you one and all for rehabilitatingRead More these pups back to health and then releasing them back into their natural environment. All marine critters should be so fortunate.

I was only around this icon a few times. Every time he was the "most interesting man ..."Read More The most engaging guy in the room. His stories were always inspirational. Even though wildly successful he returned phone calls and always answered his own phone. He was incredibly generous to many organizations in the South Bay. Always without hesitation we would donate. I called him a short while ago to speak at our Rotary club. He did not think twice, said absolutely as long as I can bring my wife. We have lost an icon, a South Bay legend. Even though I did not know Bob Meistrell I feel really lucky to have met him.

A few years back, when Body Glove was still on 6th Street in Hermosa, Bob noticed me coming aroundRead More after closing time on several occasions. He asked (with a smile) if I was casing the place. I admitted that I was, in a sense. I was using the buildings in a novel I was writing called, "THE HI-TEC ROCKS." (AMAZON) The compound was destined to become the world headquarters for Turner Sound Systems. He invited me inside and let me look around all I wanted. His only request was that I give him a copy when it was published. Of course I readily agreed. except that it wasn't published until a year ago. I was always intending on sending him the promised payment, but it just didn't seem like something he would remember after all this time. Very sorry I never got around to it.

What a kind, wonderful man! A true Christian, he truly walked the walk! The wonderful stories heRead More told as he Captained his boat! A real loss to all. May the Meistrell Family find comfort in knowing that Bob affected many lives in such positive ways!
Thanks Dad!

Good points Sharon. As a mother of 5 daughters and now 2 grandchildren, latest to Rylee who justRead More spent 8 days in the Nicu, there is alot of cautions to take with your newborns. There are also these awesome monitors to buy at Walmart, Target, Babies are US that monitor not only noises from your newborn but movement. So if your baby does not have respirations for 20 seconds a alarm goes off. My daughter got this for Rylee who is coming home today we HOPE!! as a precaution as she did have a few episodes of forgetting to catch her next breath. Even though she caught herself we are going to stay safe with the monitor. She was born 5 weeks early and just had this little glitch that has not happened again :) Every parent can afford one of these monitors that range in price from 55 to 117 dollars depending on how many out of room alert boxes you want. As you also say Sharon, so many babies are left to fall down in between couch cushions, rocking chairs, and cribs full of "stuff". Its just not needed, just the nice clean sheets in the crib or bassinet.

Brenda/Sharon:Thanks for honoring Dads/Fathers/Pops. You've once again proven that Dad's have noRead More meaning to you other than the sperm donor you apparently used them fore Next time, how about you talk about how important that Dad is, instead of sluffing him off without even a mention I'll bet by your answers you're either single moms or parents who run over the guy- hope you don't nag as well

Doris - thank you for remembering us dads. As a proud father, I appreciate it. Sharon and Brenda;Read More shame on you! This article was to say thanks to dads and had NOTHING to do with infant placement or baby monitors. I agree with Don; next time, stick to the topic!

Speaking of 'the universe lines,' while living in Santa Monica I listed a property in Idaho with aRead More broker that I never met, two weeks later I am laying by the poolside in Puerto Vallarta and guess who was relaxing next to me, the Idaho broker.

for us first time readers please give us the context of the issue between the miramar and huntlyRead More hotel. is this about razing the miramar and rebuilding as a high rise?
Andrew Hoyer June 16, 2013 at 07:43 pm
I can only speak for the Santa Monica Mid City Neighbors group in saying that we have had NO CONTACTRead More WHATSOEVER with Sue Burnside or anyone else from the Huntley and I would appreciate it if you would not further this fallacy that has been created by the author of that pernicious and deceitful flyer. However, given that the leaders of all the neighborhood groups have been meeting regularly to discuss these issues and whether to support Councilman McKeown's motion, I am fairly certain that none of them were roused to action by the Huntley's forces either. _______ I would say that the residents that turned out to support that motion were more motivated by what they see as a planning process run amok in which the developer is reinforced in their belief that the have the 'right to build' skyscrapers topped with condos for the 1%. As opposed to merely having the right to 'request' such a monstrosity. The residents are left feeling as if they are no longer stakeholders in what gets built in our city. In fact those who live downtown have no neighborhood group to represent them at all. _______ I am thankful that the flyer pointed out the extremely low property taxes paid by the Huntley and I will call them to the carpet as well anytime I mention Michael Dell's unlimited greed in manipulating Prop 13 to his advantage (one million dollars saved annually due to the loophole of ownership change.) _______ http://www.midcityneighbors.org/

Joanne June 14, 2013 at 04:26 pm
@Juliam...spot on!!! Change the name "Huntley" and "Sassounian" to "OceanRead More Avenue LLC" and "Miramar Hotel" and you have a more accurate representation of what's really going on!!! ... more smelly sewage contaminating our front doors!

Why must we mutilate our town? To get more revenue? To do what? Improve our neighborhoods! SORead More we must mutilate our neighborhoods to improve them? This is developer speak and it is nasty.
