In what part of town is her home? A good reason why the wearing of hooded sweatshirts should beRead More forbidden because (1) people with hooded tops are scary to the public, especially to children, and (2) it makes it harder on the Police to track them down.

What century are you living in? You actually want to bring back corporal punishment and are proud ofRead More violence against your former students. Yikes!!! There are many who share my beliefs, but choose not to post comments because it's casting pearls before swine. Oink oink to all of you Santa Monica Piggies.

Spare the rod spoil the child. Train up a child on the way that they should grow. Principals myRead More mother stood by. Single raising 4 children after my father died. Principles my siblings and myself stand by.

Better yet Mimi let's not have any punishment for these out of control single parent children.BetterRead More yet let's ditch the prisons and these idiots can move in with you and live in your neighborhood. Any bets on whether these hoodlums have a live in Dad. I doubt it. When I was a kid there was an old saying wait until your dad gets home. Get out of line and have your ass handed to you. Don't regret one minute of the spankings and certainly am better for it. I have raised 8 children all of which were and still are fine students. 2 are Marines serving our country so ding dings like you have a place to live free and spew your B.S. One is a veterinarian the rest are in school, and yes I whip their ass' s when they step one foot out of line. Unfortunately these two hoodlums arrested will be worse off hanging out in prison being someone's girlfriend. Of course according to you that's better then the corporal punishment and having them educated before that. I say bring back corporal punishment now. The ones that don't follow the rules can stay home with you watch TV and collect welfare checks, while selling drugs out your back door. PERFECT!!!!!!

Sounds good to me. Does anyone know if Moore and his cohort have police records? If this is a firstRead More offense for either or both, I would choose to transfer them to two separate high schools rather than expulsion.

Mimi I would say you LACK analytic skills and have rash judgements on my moral character. YouRead More clearly do not know me "to cast the first stone". Perhaps it is better you stop now. My comments were to support this teacher and make us all aware her position is not a given but to use it without rash judgements and to be professional at all times. There is no room for "oops I made a mistake" and hide.

The biggest part of this story is about the despicable superintendent Sandra Lyon. She should beRead More immediately fired with zero termination compensation. Her actions are, in her own words, “utterly alarming”. The “student” with a lengthy criminal record, possessing drugs and a weapon, is attending SAMO because he’s been kicked out of LAUSD, the superintendent throws the honorable teacher/coach under the bus, and who’s on leave?...the teacher!...amazing. I hope Mr. Black sues and receives a seven figure settlement, he deserves it.
Igor April 10, 2014 at 01:12 pm
mimi please readRead More http://santamonica.patch.com/groups/police-and-fire/p/santa-monica-pd-releases-name-photo-of-student-arrested-after-teacher-brawl. Lyons is quick to point out that people shouldn't Lyons said"We urge everyone in our community to resist letting rumors and inflammatory statements shape their opinions. Only when all the evidence and witness statements have been reviewed will we have a true and accurate accounting of what actually happened."" But she was the first one to jump the gun. You stated "Only then will we know the good guys from the bad." The box cutter and stabbing someone with a pencil is a pretty good indicator who the bad guy was.You are part of the problem. The perpetrator gets all the rights and victim gets beat up twice, once by the perpetrator and again by people like you.

Sandra Lyon is clearly NOT highly qualified and NOT very wise. If she were, we would not be havingRead More this conversation. If this is the level of professionalism that Santa Monica thinks is appropriate then they are getting exactly what they deserve.

Hi Mara, Past Patch style is to only capitalize the S. Sorry about the "n" sneaking inRead More there. It's been fixed.
martin marteen April 6, 2014 at 05:29 pm
I am a disinterested person, being new to the community. But it seems, that a preliminaryRead More investigation and preponderance of evidence, would have supported the teacher , and allowed him to stay and do his work, pending full and complete impartial review. This teacher was not endangering the students by being around, even if found "guilty" at the end of the full investigation. What better evidence than the all the students speaking up for him. Alas, Ms Lyon , perhaps, may have reached her position of incompetence and unable to separate the wheat from the chaff. Too bad. Zero tolerance is always a bad idea, when you accuse a four year old boy of sexism and suspend them, as has occurred in other instances. Ridiculous as it seems.

I've been thinking about this a lot. Something bothered me. It took a while but I found it. Not onlyRead More is Lyon bias, but so it the Patch. The headlines read 'Utterly Alarming' Video Shows Santa Monica Teacher Fighting a Student. Shouldn't it had been 'Utterly Alarming' Video Shows Santa Monica Student fighting a Teacher?

The school systems are so busy making money off our children they show how fake they are when itRead More comes to supporting their teachers. "JUST IN CASE THE PARENTS ARE silly ENOUGH TO TRY TO SUE, THEY ARE COVERING THEMSELVES AGAINST THEIR TEACHER" I hope he loses the job and SUES FOR ALL THEY HAVE....close their doors if possible. other Great schools systems are in the neighborhood. Disgusting system. Education will never improve when teacher are just fillers or baby sitters instead of REAL educators. I want my child to have a good, strong, honest, hard, speak the truth, safe teacher. Not one who will allow drugs to even be discussed let along sold in his space. I think the parents should take on this school board and ask for the resignation of the ill taking members. IS THE STUDENT IN JAIL YET?
Joan Lloyd April 8, 2014 at 09:48 am
IGOR, I so agree with you on the 'sorry' PATCH headline.....this is the shame of ourRead More society.....Make the headline that will sell the most advertisement, even though it is IRRESPONSIBLE. when we stop supporting these types of headlines this will change. Thanks for your insight.

Just as researchers are starting to link earthquakes with fracking in Texas and surrounding states,Read More Southern California has four earthquakes in a month. Our city officials need to ban this needless, dangerous and largely unregulated business.

The pedestrians were not using a crosswalk. There are plenty of traffic lights and crosswalks onRead More Ocean Ave. Nevertheless, hit and run is cowardly behavior regardless of the circumstances.
MCF March 23, 2014 at 02:02 pm
There are way too many aggressive, impatient drivers in this City. When the city encourages peopleRead More to ride a bike or walk….this means literally take your life in your hand in doing so. Granted that it takes an educated bike rider and pedestrian to respect the laws that applies to them, there should be a lot more enforcement of bad and drunk drivers who have no respect for human life. I was crossing the street with my twin grand children in a stroller on Sat. morning at 10:30 am and was nearly hit by a rushed driver plowing down Hill Street, between 4th and Main street, of all places. What does it take to slow those crazy people down??? Perhaps more strict enforcement & speed traps would be a start.

A physically abusive father and husband and some are concerned with citizenship? I think that you'reRead More missing the point here. Those that automatically assume undocumented when the surnames are Hispanic might have to rethink later this month when the Hispanic percentage in California surpasses the non-Hispanic white population.
Nanette Pastor-Hanna March 17, 2014 at 09:45 am
How does leaving the children with their grandmother constitute "protective custody" whenRead More the abusive parent knows the address of his mother/mother-in-law? This is yet another example of the incompetence of the social welfare system in Los Angeles! We need and deserve accountability. Moreover, the children deserve better than this!

It's time to end the fantasy of this unicorn sanctuary. The city has spent more money on fruitlessRead More litigation than on operating SMO. It's time to stop wasting valuable tax payer resources and embrace the airport!
Craig McCoy February 22, 2014 at 07:10 pm
It seems that only those that are opposed to the airport are the ones who bought a house nearbyRead More knowing you were going to live near an airport! A bigger issue is how light rail has destroyed our city. Driven down Olympic or Colorado lately? And we are going to trust The City Counsel to take over the airport and put that land to good use? Those fools would rather build a thirty story hotel on that site. Do you really think they would turn it into a park? Time for a reality check people. They are destroying our once quaint city piece by piece. It's a sad reality.
Craig McCoy February 22, 2014 at 07:25 pm
