The Santa Monica History Museum, located adjacent to the Santa Monica Main Library, features collections consistingMore of records, documents, oil paintings, photographs, memorabilia and other items of historical interest. More than 600,000 photos and 7,000 original property deeds from the Los Angeles County Recorder are included in the collection.</p> <p>The museum - which opened its city-provided permanent location on October 24, 2010 - also houses a research library that is open to the public on an appointment basis. It hosts free docent-led tours and additional programs.</p> <p>The Santa Monica History Museum has been operating since 1975, serving to preserve the history of the city. It was previously known as the Santa Monica Historical Society.</p>
